Kim Nuetzmann’s nomination
Ana is dedicated to student success and strives to create a meaningful experience for all students. Ana has taken the lead on supporting our Phase I students this semester and has spent countless hours communicating with them and connecting with organizations willing to provide an alternative field experience. Due to her hard work and dedication, these future teachers are finding unique ways to connect with students. After only a year at Mizzou, Ana has found other ways to support student success through Dorsey Leadership Academy and National Science Teachers Association. Ana develops trusting relationships with students and goes above and beyond to meet their needs and provide them with amazing experiences. Mizzou is a better place because of Ana Galicia!
Joel Stancer’s nomination
Ana has stepped in to assist with the Dorsey Leadership Academy this year and has been nothing short of AMAZING. She and I co-teach the SSC 1150 class dedicated to the Dorsey program. She goes above and beyond to make her lessons engaging and interactive. She shows genuine compassion and concern for our students. Our freshmen didn’t have the opportunity to partake in a Mizzou tradition (Tiger Walk). Ana organized a version of the walk for our students. She secured ice cream and Strat Comm coverage of the event. Not only does she show up for the students, but Ana also shows up for her colleagues. From random acts of kindness to cheer me up when various situations have occurred to providing food for sick colleagues, Ana does more than is required. For this, she deserves this award & more.
Debbie Timpe’s nomination
In the short time Ana has been here, she has effortlessly become a valuable asset to the Office of Field Experiences. She gives her time to those who need her, both staff and students, but her dedication to the students is evident. She takes an active role in the success of all the students she oversees and works hard to find the right fit for them. She has created or updated tutorials to help them navigate their way more easily through our programs. She is compassionate and encouraging but can be firm to make sure they keep on track. Ana always has a smile on her face and is a pleasure to work with. I think both the Office and the College are very lucky to have her here. I know I value her as a colleague and a friend.
Jessica White’s nomination
Ana is one of the most caring and giving individuals I’ve met. She works as a champion for all of the students in the College of Education. She has taken one student under her wing and because of her support, he has decided to stay at MU. Her work with the Dorsey Academy is another area where she is passionate. Not only does she care about students, but her concern for her coworkers is also tremendous. She is a true blessing to the College of Education.
Established by former Interim Dean Rose Porter, the Porter Graham Staff Excellence Award celebrates the dedication, resolve, leadership, and overall excellence of individuals making significant contributions to the MU College of Education. Rose Porter has always been a strong advocate for staff, noting that “they keep the place running.” Jill Williams-Graham (M ED 1990) and her husband Dr. Steven Graham, Sr. Associate Vice-President, UM System, joined Dr. Rose Porter and her husband Dr. Michael Porter, recognizing the immense impacts staff have in the running of the college.
