Upcoming important changes to your email account

Posted in: Admin Notes | IT | Notices

Hello everyone,

We want to remind you about two important changes coming soon, both of which are necessary to provide better security for our University IT environment.

  1. All employees’ webmail access will require MFA (multi-factor authentication) starting Wednesday, May 13, 2020.  It means you need a registered device, typically your mobile phone, to authenticate your identity before you can access your webmail.  Please note this only affects your webmail, not your Outlook client on Windows or Mac.  It is important to register soon even if you do not use webmail as this requirement will be a standard for most authenticated access by the end of the summer. For more information on this ongoing project please see: https://www.umsystem.edu/ums/is/infosec/0365mfa-implementation-faqs

For detailed instructions on how to register and the step by step instructions on how to access webmail after the registration, please see Register and use webmail with multi-factor authentication.

  1. The last day for “Skype for Business” service is May 31, 2020.  It will be terminated on June 1, 2020.  If you use text chats with your colleagues, the new tool is Microsoft Teams.  It is available in your Software Center or by downloading it via Microsoft at this link.  Training is being planned for use of this new and powerful tool to facilitate collaboration.  Look for details soon, for questions and help see https://www.umsystem.edu/ums/is/microsoft-365-resources
