The Professional Staff Council would like to congratulate the March Porter Graham Staff Excellence Award recipient: Joel Stancer! Joel is a Retention Coordinator in the College’s Office of Diversity, Recruitment & Retention.
Roman Leapheart’s nomination
Joel Stancer goes above and beyond to make every person who walks into the College of Ed feel welcome. He is one of the best attributes and resources the College has for underrepresented students. On the college of ed website it says “We focus on creating an inclusive and caring environment where all feel welcome.” Through Joel’s creation of the College of Ed Family Tree he has done just this, fostering new relationships between students of various levels, from various backgrounds, who may have not meet any other way. Joel is always a friendly face in Townsend, and is always a voice of reason when you need support. Joel goes beyond his role as our mentor for his students. Most of the people who do the best work often work in the background, but this time, we should recognize this one.
Established by former Interim Dean Rose Porter, the Porter Graham Staff Excellence Award celebrates the dedication, resolve, leadership, and overall excellence of individuals making significant contributions to the MU College of Education. Rose Porter has always been a strong advocate for staff, noting that “they keep the place running.” Jill Williams-Graham (M ED 1990) and her husband Dr. Steven Graham, Sr. Associate Vice-President, UM System, joined Dr. Rose Porter and her husband Dr. Michael Porter, recognizing the immense impacts staff have in the running of the college.
