This degree is part of the Literacy Education Program housed in the Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum.

By completing a EdSp in literacy education, you are qualified for several teaching positions, including Remedial Reading, Title I Reading, Reading Development, Special Education and Language Arts.

This degree is only offered on campus and does not lead to certification.

Degree Requirements

To receive an EdSp in literacy education, you must complete 30 hours of upper-level graduate coursework. Coursework generally comprises upper-level graduate work in literacy education, tailored to your needs and career objectives.

You must meet two sets of minimum qualifications in order to be considered for admission:

A committee of faculty members reviews your application’s credentials. You are not guaranteed admission even if you meet the minimum qualifications.

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • GRE scores
  • TOEFL scores (international students only)
