Melissa Hauber-Özer is an Assistant Professor of Qualitative Inquiry in the Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum, co-coordinator of the Action Research Network of the Americas Knowledge Democracy Initiative, and chair-elect of the Adult Education interest section and secretary of the Refugee Concerns interest section of TESOL International. She teaches graduate courses, including Qualitative Research Methods in Education I & II, Philosophical Perspectives on Educational Research, and Critical Participatory Inquiry.
Dr. Hauber-Özer’s research employs critical participatory, ethnographic, and narrative methodologies to examine issues of educational access and equity for linguistically and culturally diverse learners. She is a co-author of Critical Participatory Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Guide (SAGE Publications) and co-editor of The Routledge International Handbook of Critical Participatory Inquiry in Transnational Research Contexts, and her work has been published in several edited volumes and journals, including the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Action Research, and the International Journal of Research and Method in Education. Dr. Hauber-Özer received her PhD in International Education from George Mason University and her M.Ed. in World Language Education from Temple University.
