Christy Hutton, Ph.D. is an Assistant Visiting Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology. Dr. Hutton earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2005. She most recently worked as the Director of the Wellness Resource Center and as a psychologist and the Assistant Director for Outreach at the MU Counseling Center beginning in 2009. She previously worked in community mental health and private practice settings and provided consultation and training across the US independently and as faculty for CMI Education Institute (now PESI). She has clinical specialties in non-suicidal self-injury, suicidality, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. Christy believes in the power of prevention, education, and equity in supporting mental health. She teaches a variety of courses, including advanced counseling psychology practicum, group counseling, supervision, consultation, and counseling methods. Her areas of interest include applied clinical training and supervision, LGBTQIA+ identity development, intersectional identity development, evidence-based practices, substance use prevention and treatment, and the mental well-being of graduate students.
