Although students choose Mizzou for a variety of reasons, most choose education for the same reason: to help all learners achieve.

Our faculty and staff are committed to ensuring that all teacher education candidates will be successful and competent professional educators. As a research-intensive institution, faculty members engage in scholarship that directly informs the practice of teaching and teacher education. Candidates have the unique opportunity to complete their coursework in classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

All the teacher education programs involve intensive field-based experiences beginning sophomore year. Both elementary and special education programs culminate in a year-long senior year internship—Senior Year On-Site Program (SYOSP), which provides opportunities for candidates to develop strong relationships with students and staff in one school.

Don’t forget about the Mizzou Teach Abroad Programs and the opportunity to make friends right away through MU’s Freshmen Interest Groups.

The state of Missouri requires that graduates from a baccalaureate program have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher, a GPA of 3.00 or higher in professional education, and a GPA of 3.00 or higher in the specific content area for which certification is sought.
