Impact for the College of Education's Initial Teacher Certification Programs

Real World Experience from the Beginning:
Education students benefit from early field experiences.  Our pre-service
teachers contribute over 29,000 hours of field experiences by assisting in
teaching and learning for 687 classrooms in Mid-Missouri.  Within their
education program, sophomores contribute over 3,200 unpaid service hours
annually in local community organizations for children, youth and families.

Statewide Partnerships Promote Diversity
To incorporate real-world classroom experience, learning is delivered in
partnership with approximately 80 schools in 22 school districts across the
state of Missouri, ensuring that students experience authentic classrooms in
a variety of socio-economic environments and within rural, urban and
suburban settings.

Senior Year On-Site Classroom Training
Students spend the entire last semester of their education program placed in
a partner school district.   Two certification areas, elementary education
and special education, require a full year of on-site training during the
senior year.  In 2008-2009, education students held internships in 35
Missouri school districts.

Graduates in Demand
In 2008-2009, graduates of the College of Education were recommended for
318 Missouri teacher certifications. Education graduates boast a 91% job
placement rate in their first year and benefit from a dedicated education
career office that hosts the largest teacher job fair in the area with more
than 130 employers from 6 states, and provides interview, resume and
etiquette workshops.
