Academic Advising Checklist

When should I meet with my advisor and how do I sign up for an advising appointment?

  • When - We recommend meeting with an advisor at least once a semester.  At a minimum, you should meet with your advisor prior to enrolling for your next semester of classes.  Try to meet with the advisor a few days before your enrollment date. (If you meet with the advisor too far in advance of your enrollment date, the courses and sections discussed may be full by the time you register.)
  • How - To make an advising appointment please go to www.mucoeadvising.genbook.com.
  • What to Bring - Come to your advising appointment prepared!
Bring a program of Study, note paper, pen or pencil, list of questions, etc. Think about what you hope to accomplish during this appointment before you come. Make notes about ideas and questions.  Appointments during early registration periods are limited to 30 minutes and tend to focus on registration for the upcoming semester. It is better to discuss other topics before or after the registration period.
