General Requirements for Admission to Phase II
(Do Not Self-Advise! Review your requirements and plans to complete them with an Academic Advisor)
- English 1000 with a "C-" or higher
- College Algebra or equivalent with a "C-" or higher
- Communications 1200 or equivalent with a "C-" or higher (or competency in oral proficiency as demonstrated by successfully passing the Principles of Public Speaking - DSST exam)
- Currently a College of Education Student
- Demonstration of competence of Phase I learning markers as demonstrated by satisfactory completion of Phase I courses (TDP 11XX: Orientation, grade of "S"; TDP 2005 and TDP 2044, grade of "S" in each course; TDP 2000 and TDP 2040, grade of "C" (2.000) or higher in each course)
- Minimum MU GPA and overall cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.750 or higher
- Minimum passing score on each subset of the CBASE of 235 or higher
- Possession of characteristics associated with effective performance in a professional role at the level and major selected
- Satisfactory completion of additional courses that may be required for specific majors (see below)
- Completion of online Application for Progression into Phase II and any required supplementary materials
- Additional requirements as approved by the faculty for areas with enrollment limitations which currently are: Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Middle School Social Studies, Secondary Social Studies, Secondary English/Language Arts, and Special Education.
Be Qualified for Phase II...
- Go beyond your coursework. Visit MU Serves to volunteer with youth. Consider working for Jumpstart or Adventure Club. Babysitting, coaching, tutoring, and mentoring are all considered great experience.
- Keep your grades up. Visit the Student Success Center to find out about tutoring and other services.
- Go outside the box. Consider studying or volunteering abroad. Visit the International Center for more info. Sophomore year is a good time for going abroad.
- Get connected. Join an education organization or MU organization. Network through professional organizations related to your certification area.
