Assessment & Consultation Clinic (ACC)

The MU Assessment & Consultation Clinic provides quality assessment, mental health and consultation services for clientèle from across Missouri and neighboring states. Licensed Psychologists with a broad range of expertise provide assessment, counseling and consultation to a culturally diverse clientèle of all ages. The Clinic serves individuals, schools and families coping with a wide variety of issues.

Career & Success Center

College of Education faculty members play a significant role in the work of the University of Missouri's Career Center. Since 1974, educational and counseling psychology faculty members have been involved in offering career counseling and services to the students at MU.

Center for Community College Research

The Centers mission is to encourage, conduct, and disseminate research about the community college. Of particular interest is (1) the impact of national, state, and institutional credit-transfer systems upon community college students, (2) the effects of government and institution policies on baccalaureate attainment through initial attendance at the community college, and (3) best practices facilitating community college students who wish to and do transfer to four-year colleges. Center for the Advancement of Mental Health Practices in Schools (CAMHPS)

The Center was established through a partnership between the Missouri Department of Mental Health and the MU Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology to respond to the need and to the shift in the priorities of federal and state agencies pertaining to policy, practice and research concerning child and adolescent mental health. In accordance with this shift, the Center considers prevention as a fundamental element in supporting our nation's youth in facing developmental challenges, psycho-social issues, and environmental stressors within the school system and community.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center assists MU students with concerns that interfere with their experiences at MU. Services include individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, biofeedback and stress management, testing, outreach presentations, and consultation to university departments, faculty, and staff. The staff consists of highly qualified professionals.

Hook Center

The Hook Center, created by an endowed gift from Harold and Joanne Hook, is a research and service center that currently works with school districts across Missouri and will eventually expand to schools across the nation. The purpose of the center is to assist school districts create and maintain a culture in which all students are successful.

Kansas City Special Education Certification Project

The Special Education Department delivers an on-site special education certification program for non-certified Kansas City Public School District personnel. Through this initiative, a diverse group of district personnel are working towards obtaining their special education certification without leaving their work site.

KidTools Support System (KTSS)
Point of Contact: Gail Fitzgerald
KTSS is a federally-funded project to provide performance support software for children, ages 7-13, who have learning disabilities and/or emotional and behavioral problems. The KTSS software includes a library of tools provided as easy-to-use templates for children to personalize and use independently in school and home settings

Middle Level Leadership Center (MLLC)

The MLLC is a service of the MU College of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. The Center's mission is to develop and disseminate current knowledge about best practices in school leadership and support school improvement initiatives at the middle school, junior high school, an intermediate school levels.

Moberly (Mo.) Project in the Moberly Public Schools
Point of Contact: James R. Koller
MU's Center for the Advancement of Mental Health Practices in Schools and Moberly Public Schools are collaborating with several area social service agencies to proactively integrate mental health services for students. The Moberly Community Coalition for Children and Families Project, which is a result of the collaborative effort, will build a more effective and comprehensive system for integrating mental health and wellness services for students in the rural Moberly schools.

Project ASSIST

Project ASSIST (Achieving Success through School Improvement Site Teams), is working with three identified St. Louis-area middle level schools with high poverty and low achievement. The goal is to help their teachers and principals build each school's capacity to lead the entire faculty in school improvement. This project is in conjunction with MU's Middle Level Leadership Center.

Science and Mathematics Academy for the Recruitment and Retention of Teachers (SMAR2T)
Point of Contact: Sandra Abell
SMAR2T recruits and prepares individuals with baccalaureate degrees in the sciences or in mathematics to teach at the middle and/or secondary levels. In 15 or 24 months, you can earn a Master's Degree while you become certified to teach science or mathematics, 6-12, in Missouri.The program was created with a grant from the National Science Foundation to address the shortage of qualified and certified mathematics and science teachers in Missouri and throughout the country.

Starlight Program

Through the Starlight Program, Mizzou Athletes interact with children by reading and discussing children's literature. Athletes engage in virtual communication with three classrooms across Missouri by employing teleconference technology.

The mission of the Center for Mathematics & Science Teacher Education (CMSTE) is to increase the quantity and quality of middle and secondary mathematics and science teachers in the state of Missouri.

The Reflector

The Reflector is a three-level computer lab and resource center located in the College of Education's Townsend Hall. The Reflector offers the latest technologies, including webcasting and videoconferencing, as well as helpful staff members who assist students to get the most out of these resources.

Tiger Eye Reading Community

Location: Townsend Hall, Columbia Mo.
The tiger eye reading initiative first began in 2005 and provided an outlet for College of Education-sponsored children's reading programs. Today, the reading community provides opportunities for pre-service teachers to interact with children and introduce them to books and reading.

Verizon Children's Literacy Center

The Verizon Children's Literacy Center houses the latest children's literature books, award-winning literature books, and provides teleconferencing capabilities to faculty and students. Teleconferencing allows us to interact with schools across the state of Missouri, the nation, and as far away as Taiwan. This resource provides school communities with opportunities, information, and expertise available from within MU's College of Education. The Verizon Children's Literacy Center also gives MU's education students the opportunity to hone their skills in an interactive environment designed to improve children's reading and writing.

Adventure Club

Adventure Club is a before- and after-school program based at 18 elementary schools in the Columbia Public School District. We provide hands-on educational and recreational activities for children in a safe and caring environment. The Club's purpose is to enhance the growth and development of children, families, staff and the communities we serve. Adventure Club is enthusiastic about providing quality before and after school care for children. We work diligently to offer enriching activities that enhance the development of children socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically.

Assessment Resource Center (ARC)

For over 70 years, the Assessment Resource Center (ARC), a part of the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), has helped hundreds of clients answer important questions. ARC provides practical assessment and evaluation resources for clients in education, non-profit organizations, government, and business including: Services for K-12 testing, surveys, and other assessments in the state of Missouri; College BASE, a general education assessment used for entry into teacher education programs and for campus-wide assessment at over 135 colleges and universities nationwide; MU faculty services including classroom testing and course evaluations; Survey, evaluation, and research services for university faculty, businesses, government, and research institutions; projects; and Performance assessment scoring for exams using open-ended items.

Center for School-wide Positive Behavioral Support

School-wide Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) is collaboration between graduate students and faculty with a focus on building capacity within schools, districts, and states to prevent, provide early intervention, and provide effective support for children and youth with problem behavior. The MU Center has a three part mission: a) conduct research in schools to ascertain the most effective and efficient methods for addressing problem behavior, b) disseminate information regarding school-wide PBS, and c) provide training and technical assistance to schools, districts, and states supporting their efforts to build systems of school-wide PBS. The MU Center is funded through several federal grants and is affiliated with the national OSEP Center for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports housed at the University of Oregon.

Information Experience Lab

Established in January 2003, the Information Experience Laboratory is a research and usability testing facility in the MU College of Education¿s School of Information Science and Learning Technologies (SISLT). The mission of the IE Lab is to improve the users¿ information experience in web-based information systems through research methodologies that blend traditional usability evaluation with human information behavior research.

Instructional Materials Lab

The Instructional Materials Laboratory (IML) within the College of Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia has a history of serving educators for over 35 years. IML continues to support educators with quality instructional materials and services and instructional management systems. As a national leader in instructional materials development and publication, IML serves secondary and postsecondary educational institutions, continuing education programs, state departments of education and other government agencies, private industry, health care facilities, and correctional institutions. Our materials and services are used in all 50 states and several other countries.

MU Partnership for Educational Renewal

School districts know what is best for their teachers and students. Through the MPER partnership, Missouri schools, the MU Colleges of Education and of Arts and Science, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Regional Professional Development Center aim to renew Pre-K through twelfth grade education and improve teacher preparation. 22 Missouri school districts participate in the partnership. MPER aims to achieve renewal by focusing on four functions: educating children and youth, preparing school professionals, providing ongoing professional development, and conducting inquiry.

Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders

The Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of Missouri-Columbia was established on April 29, 2005 through the philanthropy of William and Nancy Thompson to promote research, teaching and service innovations designed to improve the lives of children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological conditions.

MMEET (MU Men for Excellence in Elementary Teaching)

This program is designed to recruit and develop undergraduate and graduate male students to become teachers in elementary classrooms. This type of program has the potential for increasing the diversity of our teaching force and providing male role models for African American students. Dr. Roy Fox is currently conducting research and offering support for individuals interested in this project.

MARS (Mathematically At-Risk Students)

This collaboration between faculty in elementary education (Dr. John Lannin) and special education (Dr. Delinda van Garderen) seeks to better understand how to build mathematical understanding in number and operation with first and second grade students. The project currently uses undergraduate students who work with pairs of students that have been identified as at-risk for failure in mathematics.
