Helen A. Neville Multicultural Speaker Series
The Coalition organizes and promotes outreach activities to interface with the Columbia community. Among the most successful events of the Coalition has been the Helen A. Neville Multicultural Lecture Series named in recognition of the many and varied outstanding multicultural contributions to the Coalition, MU, and Columbia community. The invited speaker is a nationally recognized multicultural expert who not only provides a multicultural lecture for the Columbia public schools, MU, and Columbia community, but also interacts with MU students, faculty, and administrators in a wide range of professional and social contexts. In the past 11 years we have invited Dr. Rosie Bingham, Dr. Manuel Casas, Dr. Robert L. Williams, Dr. Derald Wing Sue, Dr. Helen A. Neville, Dr. James Croteau, Dr. William Liu, Dr. Melba J. T. Vasquez, Dr. Nadya Fouad, Dr. Patricia Arredondo, and Dr. Joseph White. The titles of the multicultural speeches delivered in the Columbia Public Schools are listed below. To check out the audio or video tapes of the talks, please contact the CCC.

Examples of the outcome:
In fall 2009, Dr. Fouad reached 242 MU faculty, staff, and students who serve as educators, mental health providers or community members. The feedback we have received suggests that Dr. Fouad made a substantial impact on the individuals she interacted with during his visit. A student said “It was my first of a kind attendance at such a talk and I am leaving with a whole bunch of new ideas and knowledge about multiculturalism.” In addition, Dr. David Wallace, director of the MU Counseling Center stated, “Dr. Fouad is a major driving force in our field. It is my hope that we continue to be exposed to high caliber presenters.”
