Diary of a First Year Teacher
What's it like to be a brand new teacher, responsible for teaching a class of first graders how to read? Find out by following Barbara Zielinski, a new teacher who's been sending us weekly diary entries that are inspiring, informative, and at times humorous. The diary marks the beginning of Reading Rockets' First Year Teacher program, a pilot project that provides new K-2 teachers with intensive training and mentoring on how to teach reading. Reading Rockets A national multimedia project that looks at how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help them. It is funded through a grant by the Office of Special Education Programs. They publish a newsletter available by email to keep you up to date on available resources and new research findings.

This is the homepage for the Think Quest organization, which holds an annual competition for Web Site creation by students age 12-19. The Web Sites must be created completely by students, they must be educational, and the students must work collaboratively in teams. Visitors to this site can explore the winning projects to see the best examples or search all projects by subject area.

This resource for science teachers of grades K-8 provides a highly organized sequence of science subjects and concepts to be taught in the classrooms at different grade levels, incorporating and applying the national science benchmarks and standards. Each terminal/content objective has been organized into a classroom connector which begins with a Set and ends with a Closure. This site maps our the overall structure and sequence as well as individual lesson plans and hands-on activities, including the themes necessary to raise activities to a higher cognition level.
