Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
The Garrison Institute's Initiative on Contemplation and Education
"American schools are facing a crisis. Educators, policymakers and parents are searching for evidence-based approaches and practices that will improve students' readiness to learn, increase their academic performance, reduce stress, promote pro-social behavior, promote emotion regulation and enhance the social skills children need for success in school and life.
During the next three years, the Initiative on Contemplation and Education (ICE) at the Garrison Institute will promote the research and implementation of contemplation-based interventions in the American public school setting. Evidence suggests that secular contemplative techniques may enhance the broad range of goals identified for K–12 education including both academic achievement and social and emotional learning by promoting attentional skills and emotion regulation capabilities." Here's the 73-page report that investigates the link between contemplative practices and improved student K–12 academic outcomes: Contemplation and Education, A Survey of Programs Using Contemplative Techniques in K–12, Educational Settings: A Mapping Report, October 2005.
