Suicide Prevention - Online Course

Coming soon: A self-paced, online course for teachers, administrators and staff on suicide prevention in children and adolescents.

For other courses by the Center for the Advancement of Mental Health Practices please go to the Center for Distance & Independent Study (CDIS).

With suicide listed as the 3rd leading cause of death for young people, it is become an increasing public health concern.  Fortunately, school professionals can play an important role in the prevention of youth suicide.  Because educators see youth so frequently, they occupy a privileged space in the lives of students, and are critical gatekeepers to mental health services.  Based on evidence-based practices, this course will increase students’ knowledge pertaining to suicide intervention and prevention.  The course will dispel many myths some individuals may believe associate with the topic suicide.  It will also examine factors that increase groups of individuals’ risk for suicide, and highlight the warning signs that suggest an individual could be experiencing suicide ideation.  Just as important, the course will help to foster the attitudes and dispositions that are critical for effective suicide prevention and advocacy.
