The Dick and Jane series helped youngsters learn to read through the 1970s. A. Sterl Artley, a former COE professor and authority on child reading techniques, co-wrote the series.

By collaborating with scientists to interpret brain scans, faculty better understand how kids learn to read and can design curriculum that will help them succeed. The college’s new endowed chair in literacy allows the college to further target struggling readers.
