Searching for a job is a rigorous and time-consuming process. With the pressures of being a full-time student, finding time to conduct a proper job search can be difficult. Mizzou’s College of Education and Human Development Career Services Office is here to help you throughout this process. With the help of our knowledgeable staff and resources, the tools are available for you to plan meaningful professional development and execute a successful job search.

Professional Portfolio

In addition to an application, employers expect various files when you apply for a job in an educational setting. You can keep your files organized with your choice of technology tools in a Professional Portfolio (perhaps a digital folder in an accessible and secure location such as on a USB, cloud service, and on a personal electronic device). Your Professional Portfolio will contain the following documents:

  • Résumé
  • Cover letter
  • List of References
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Student Teaching Evaluation
  • Copy of your latest background check
  • Copy of your teacher certificates (or a Letter of Verification from the CEHD Certification Officer) *
  • Transcripts
  • Potentially a headshot
  • Potentially professional social media profiles such as LinkedIn

If you are an undergraduate student, you may not have all these materials (e.g., your teacher certification) when applying for jobs. Employers understand this and consider your application with the most up-to-date information you can provide.

*If you are currently an undergraduate student who is student teaching, you may request a letter verifying future certification from our Certification Officer by sending an email with the subject “Request for Letter of Certification” to CEHDCertification@missouri.edu. Please make sure to include your name, student number, the program you are enrolled in and the certification(s) you are pursuing. You can learn more at the Certification page.
