Evelyn Jorgenson, Moberly, was honored by the University of Missouri and the Missouri Community College Association Presidents and Chancellors Council at a recognition ceremony for distinguished and successful mutual alumni. Jorgenson received an associate degree from State Fair Community College in 1972. She received a master’s degree in higher and adult education from MU in 1987 and a doctorate degree in higher and adult education from MU in 1996. Since 1996 she has served as president of Moberly Area Community College. Jorgenson has served as the president of the Missouri Community College Association Presidents and Chancellors Council.
Ron Lankford, superintendent of Webb City schools, has been named Missouri 2010 Superintendent of the Year by the Missouri Association of School Administrators. He has served as the CoE Alumni Organization President and currently serves on the MAA Governing Board.
Diane Aaron, BS Ed ’80, of Stilwell, Kan., was named 2009 Kansas Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Kansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Judy Bowman Anthrop, BS Ed ’69, of Douglas, Mich., published a new book entitled A Portrait of Ox-Bow: Architecture-Art-Artists.
Don Balka, PhD ’74, of Lapaz, Ind., is serving as president-elect of the School Science and Mathematics Association for 2009-2010.
Walter Bargen, M Ed ’90, of Ashland, Mo., the state’s first poet laureate, wrote Days Like This Are Necessary: New and Selected Poems (BkMk Press, 2009).
Eliot F. Battle, M Ed ’60, of Columbia, Mo., received an honorary degree from the University of Missouri during the December 2009 commencement ceremonies.
Glenn Berry, M Ed ’76, EdD ’86, of Blue Springs, Mo., was honored by a Missouri House of Representatives resolution for his achievements as director of the Missouri Center for Safe Schools.
Bryce Bunton, BS Ed ’03, M Ed ’05, of St. Louis, Mo., was named the 2009 Outstanding New Career and Technical Educator by the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education.
John Dagley, PhD ’72, of Athens, Ga., received the Society of Counseling Psychology’s Outstanding Mentor Award.
Joanette Ford, M Ed ’02, of Columbia, Mo., received the Missouri Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award.
Charlotte Gray, BS Ed ’86, M Ed ’05, of Foristell, Mo., was named the 2009 Teacher of the Year by the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education.
Joseph Hammer, M Ed ’09, of Wauconda, Ill., received the Edwin B. Newman Graduate Research Award from the American Psychological Association, and the Student of the Year Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Men & Masculinity.
Gary Hawkins, EdSp ’91, and wife Martha Hawkins, EdD ’03, of Chillicothe, Mo., announced that Amy’s Story, a literacy foundation established in memory of their daughter, Amy Kathryn Hawkins, was approved by the Missouri State Employees' Charitable Campaign.
Cheryl Jamison, M Ed ’78, of Annapolis, Md., is on the board of directors of the Association for Conflict Resolution in Atlanta.
John Robert Jones, EdD ’78, of Seaboard, N.C., received the 2009 Life Inspiration Award from the Bertie County Relay for Life, American Cancer Society.

Olivia M. Madison, MA ’75, of Ames, Iowa, received the 2010 Margaret Mann Citation presented by the Cataloging and Classification Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services.
Jeffrey Meisenheimer, BS Ed ’94, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., was selected as the Missouri Assistant Principal of the Year as part of the National Association of Secondary School Principals/Vicro Assistant Principal of the Year program.
Scott Miniea, BS Ed ’90, M Ed ’04, of Fulton, Mo., is associate vice president of university advancement at William Woods University.
Sharon Reeves Whalen Muench, BS Ed ’71, of Pittsburg, Pa., is serving as chair of the University of Phoenix’s Pittsburg campus and head of its College of Arts and Science. She was named Woman of the Year by the local branch of the American Association of University Women.
Jeanne Weil Nimmo, BS Ed ’70, of Warren, N.J., received the Mount Horeb School Teacher of the Year – Excellence in Education Award.
Cara Posegate, BS Ed ’04, M Ed ’06, of Marshall, Mo., was named Missouri’s New Outstanding Professional of the Year by the Marketing and Cooperative Education Association.
Laurel Rosenthal, BS Ed ’66, of Carthage, Mo., was named the 2009 Carthage Citizen of the Year by the Carthage Chamber of Commerce.
Cynthia Connett Roupe, MA ’79, of Topeka, Kan., was recognized for Meritorious Service at the 2010 Kansas Library Association Presidential Awards.
Brandy Sanchez, MA ’07, of Columbia, Mo., was one of 15 librarians who selected the recipient of the Caldecott Medal for best illustrator of an American children’s picture book.
Scott Stallcup, M Ed ’87, of St. Louis, Mo., was named Kevin “Cub” Martin Memorial Missouri Assistant Coach of the Year by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Anna Swenty, M Ed ’05, of Blacksburg, Va., was selected to participate in the Weightless Flight of Discovery program sponsored by Northrop Grunman Foundation.
Teresa Van Dover, BS Ed ’73, M Ed ’77, EdSp ’89, EdD ’98, of Columbia, Mo., is an associate professor and department chair of education programs at Stephen’s College.
Todd Whitaker, M Ed ’85, PhD ’92, of Terre Haute, Ind., wrote Leading School Change: Nine Strategies to Bring Everybody on Board (Eye on Education, 2009).
Kristin Ziemke-Fastabend, BS Ed ’00, of Chicago, Ill., received a Live From the Field Fellowship from HSBC and Earthwatch Institute to engage in research in Louisiana. She was also one of three recipients of the prestigious Chicagoland Kohl-McCormick Award for Early Childhood Education.
