Motoko Akiba was recognized as a top reviewer for the American Educational Research Journal/Social and Institutional Analysis in 2006.Margaret Grogan cowrote Women Leading School systems: Uncommon Roads to Rulfillment.
Jeni Hart is a co-principal investigator on a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation that is exploring the advancement of faculty women in science, technology, engineering and math at MU.
Barbara Townsend cowrote the third edition of ASHE Reader on Community Colleges and Community College Faculty: Undervalued and Overlooked. She is also the principal investigator on a $100,000 grant called “Improving Practitioner Knowledge to Improve Transfer,” and director of MU’s new Center for Community College Research.
Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology
Richard Cox wrote the sixth edition of Sports Psychology: Concepts and Applications.Lisa Flores presented at the National Career Development Association's global conference and at the University of Georgia's conference on school counselors as educational leaders latino/a K-12 students, and will represent Div. 45 at the American Psychological Association’s 2009 national multicultural summit.
Glen Good cowrote Counseling and Psychotherapy Essentials: Integrating Theories, Skills, and Practices.
Norman C. Gysbers cowrote Developing and Managing your School Guidance and Counseling Program and is a co-investigator on a $83,000 Hong Kong research grant to investigate life skills development and school connectedness among senior secondary students.
James Koller received the 2006 Juanita Evans Award, which honors outstanding contributions to the nation’s advancement of school-based mental health programs for children and adults.
Roger Worthington was elected to the inaugural board of directors for the newly formed National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education.
Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum
Sandra Abell received the University of Missouri’s prestigious Curators’ Professor award.Fran Arbaugh received a 2007 Kemper Fellowship from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
Linda Bennett cowrote Digital Age: Technology-Based K-12 Lesson Plans for Social Studies.
Carol Gilles and Y. Zhang wrote “Epistemologies and Culture of Pre-service Teachers” in Academic Educational Quarterly.
Douglas Grouws received the lifetime achievement award from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Deborah Hanuscin published research on elementary science teachers in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching and in the National Science Teachers Association’s Exemplary Science: Best Practices in Professional Development.
John Lannin is a co-principal investigator on the Researching Science and Mathematics Teacher Learning in Alternative Certification project; the Integrating Science, Industrial Technology, and Engineering project; and the Evaluation of Professional Development Projects team.
Barbara Reys edited “The Intended Mathematics Curriculum as Represented in State-Level Curriculum Standards: Consensus or Confusion?,” a volume in Research in Mathematics Education Series.

School of Information Science and Learning Technologies
David Jonassen’s grants total more than $700,000 from the National Science Foundation and the Missouri Industrial Assessment Center. Jonassen received two distinguished development awards for his work in education technology, published two books on conceptual change and solving scientific problems, and was coauthor on a text about meaningful learning with technology.Joi Moore cowrote the Winter 2007 issue of the Journal of Negro Education.
Special Education
Tim Lewis and Melissa Stormont, along with doctoral students Becky Beckner and Nanci Johnson, wrote A Positive Approach to Behavior Management: Program-Wide/School-Wide Positive Behavioral Support.Rebecca McCathren received a Thompson Center research scholars award to study infant social behavior so that infants who are later diagnosed with autism can be distinguished from those who are typically developing.
Melissa Stormont wrote Fostering Resilience in Young Children at Risk for Failure: Strategies for Grades K-3.
