Middle School Mathematics Education
Degree Overview
MU's educator preparation program in Middle School Mathematics Education leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education and Missouri teacher certification in Middle School Mathematics: Grades 5-9. Students will be prepared to teach mathematics to adolescents in private settings and in public schools.
As with all Middle School Education degrees in Missouri, the BS in Middle School Language Arts allows students to pick a second option area for certification. Options include: Art (K-9), Math, Science, and Social Studies.
The program encompasses four phases:

Admission Requirements
- Students are automatically admitted to Phase I with admittance to the University
- Application for Phase II occurs in the spring of your Sophomore year. Criteria for Phase II admission include:
- 2.75 with 60+ credits completed
- Scores on the College Base Exam
- Related Experience
Degree Requirements
It is recommended to have a few mathematics courses completed before Phase II:
- Math 1160 (Precalculus)
- Statistics 1200, Math 1300 (Finite) and
- Math 1360 (Geometric Concepts).

- Information regarding application to Phase II is provided through email when enrolled in TDP 2000 and/or 2040.
Fees and Financial Aid
MU is an affordable place for all students there are a variety of federal financial aid programs, along with assistance from the University. The College of Education also offers scholarships for its undergraduate students.
