Masters Program - Gifted

Online Master of Education Gifted Education Focus

This innovative online program from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Education offers practicing educators a master of education degree with an emphasis in learning and instruction and a focus in gifted education. The program is for K-12 educators and is designed to enhance instructional practices in diverse educational settings. Courses are selected to provide educators with skills and knowledge in current learning theory and to translate this knowledge into practical strategies and techniques for use in the classroom.

The program combines:

  • 18 hours of core courses
  • 15 hours of focused courses

Master of education candidates also complete a terminal project or summative experience at the end of the degree program. The courses in the master's program are chosen and designed with the student's final project in mind. The final project allows the student to synthesize concepts learned in both core and focus area courses.

Missouri students: The gifted focus courses encompass all competencies required for state gifted education certification. However, you must already be certificated in another teaching area in Missouri to obtain this additional certification. For certification you must submit transcripts to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Check the website at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for specific requirements. Non-Missouri students: Please check with your state department of education for specific requirements regarding gifted education certification.

The Gifted Education Program is an online degree program through MU Direct.
