  3. How do I get started with the application process?

    Undergraduate:  Undergrads should call undergraduate admissions 573-882-0560 or visit MU Admissions Online.

    Graduate: 

    1) First, you should look over this website to determine your area of interest within the Special Education field.  If you find that you have questions about the programs, our faculty advisors can help guide you toward an emphasis that best suites your interests. 

    2) To apply, use our application criteria webpage as a checklist. (masters, doctoral) Your materials may be submitted all at once or individually.

  4. Is the GRE required?
    Yes.  Applications will not be considered without GRE scores.  The exam must have been taken within the last 5 years.

  5. How and when will I know if I am accepted?
    The special education department will send an official letter to you via postal mail.  Then, if the Graduate School approves your acceptance, they will contact you with further instructions.

  3. What courses should I take for certification?
    For initial certification, the College's Certification Office would be pleased to work with you.  They can be reached at (573) 882-5659. For additional certification, please contact The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

  4. To be accepted into a masters program, does my academic background need to be in Special Education?
    No.  Your background may be in any field; however, you may be required to take additional coursework.  Please consult with one of our faculty advisors.  For more specific information about admission criteria, please scroll to the bottom of the page at one of these links:  masters, doctoral.

  5. How much will it cost to take courses at UMC?
    Please refer to the Cashier's Office website for the "Educational Fee".  Fees for on-line courses are posted on MUDirect's website
