Students, donors honored at ceremony

Donors have opportunity to meet scholarship recipients

Financial supporters of the MU College of Education had the opportunity to visit with those who benefit from their gifts the most, students, during the Grace C. Bibb Society and Scholarship Recognition Brunch held October 10, 2009 in Columbia, Mo.   Having dedicated her life to education, Jo Behymer was an ideal candidate to serve as the 2009 event chair.  After all, Behymer is a four-time alumna of the MU College of Education and has served in many roles at Mizzou over her 38-year career.

SISLT professor wins MU teaching award

Dr. Linda Esser, Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Information & Learning Technologies, has recently been awarded the 2009 Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award in the Graduate/Professional category. This award is given by the Provost’s Office to MU faculty who actively use educational technology to advance learning and teaching in the classroom. Dr. Esser will receive a $500 stipend to spend on equipment, software, or other materials that will further her use of teaching with technology. Other winners include: Oscar Chavez from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; Dale Musser, a former SISLT faculty member, from the College of Engineering; Emily Friedman from the College of Arts and Sciences; and Keith Politte, a frequent collaborator with SISLT, from the Reynolds Journalism Institute. SISLT graduate student wins national research award

Ioan Ionas, a graduate student in the School of Information Science & Learning Technologies, recently won the 2009 Dean and Sybil McClusky Research Award given by the Educational Communications and Technologies Foundation. Ionas received this award for his submitted project entitled “Self Explanation and Casual Reasoning”. Sponsored by the ECT Foundation, the McClusky Award recognizes the most exceptional doctoral research proposal in educational technology. Ionas was encouraged by his PhD advisor, David Jonassen, to submit his work. Along with a $500 cash prize, the ETC Foundation invited Ionas to the 2009 AECT annual convention which is held in Louisville, Kentucky, from Oct. 27-31. There, Ionas will formally receive an award and will give a presentation about his award-winning research proposal. Read the whole story
