Doctoral Program

Mizzou's doctoral program in social studies education prepares individuals for leadership positions in diverse educational settings and research careers in higher education. The majority of graduates take college of education faculty positions in colleges and universities. The program includes:

  • Applications of educational technologies,
  • Internships,
  • Teacher education experiences,
  • Authentic research and course work in social studies education and the arts and sciences.

Master's Degree, Online

The Online Master's Degree includes a 12-hour social studies focus is primarily for classroom teachers, grades 1-12, who wish to advance their knowledge and practice of social studies while obtaining an advanced degree. This focus area will provide you with skills and knowledge applicable to the social studies classroom.

Master's Degree, On Campus

The on-campus Master's Degree includes 32 hours in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in social studies education.

Teaching Fellowship Program

The Teaching Fellowship program is offered by the College of Education and the MU Partnership for Educational Renewal. It offers an outstanding instruction and support system for first year teachers.

Undergraduate Teacher Education

Students can select either middle school or secondary social studies teacher certification as an undergraduate student.
