Science Teacher Preparation
Undergraduate Preparation Program
Are you exploring an undergraduate degree that will help you become a teacher of science?
Science education faculty members prepare future teachers — preschool through high school — to teach science. Through campus-based coursework and school-based field experiences, we help future teachers examine student learning and explore best practices in science education. Certifications are available in the following areas:
- Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Middle School Science Education
- Secondary Science Education
- If you already have an undergraduate degree in a science field and are interested in becoming a middle or high school science teacher, consider MU's post baccalaureate science teacher certification program, called SMAR2T, or Science and Mathematics Academy for the Recruitment and Retention of Teachers. In 15 months, you will take courses and experience a field-based internship, and receive your Master's degree and be eligible for state science teacher certification.
