In the early 1900s, Mark Twain accepted an honorary degree from MU on the steps of Jesse Hall. In the '50s and '60s, A. Sterl Artley, a College of Education graduate and then professor, helped an entire generation of students learn to read through his work on the Dick and Jane book series.

Today, our department continues this tradition of excellence. For instance, we are engaged in numerous projects to positively influence teaching and learning in the disciplines, such as:

You will find excellent teaching at Mizzou:

  • Four LTC professors received the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching;
  • The National Council Teachers of English recently named Professor Emeritus, Dorothy Watson, as its Outstanding Educator of the Year, and
  • Professors Bob Reys and Sandra Abel became the first College of Education faculty members ever to receive a Unviersity of Missouri Curator’s Professorship.

Faculty generated over 8.5 million dollars in grant awards and authored over 40 publications in the past year. When you work side by side with faculty, your degree in middle school language arts, early childhood education, art education, high school science education, or music education, will open many professional doors for you.

Our graduates go on to become some of the most successful and best-prepared classroom teachers. Our graduates are among the most sought after both within Missouri and nation-wide.
