MMEET Program
I. MMEET Teaching Fellows Program:
To recruit a cohort of the best qualified men (6-10+) who wish to pursue their Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, as part of the Teaching Fellows Program. Participants will:
1) receive an additional yearly stipend (from combined resources of LTC, MPER, College of Ed);
2) be placed in teams or small groups within a given school;
3) pursue a modified course of study (e.g., a “support seminar” focusing on the roles and challenges of men in elementary schools and related issues), as follows:
a) Summer #1 MEET Seminar (evening, 1 credit hr.)
b) Fall #2 MEET Seminar (1 credit hr.)
c) Winter/Spring #3 MEET Seminar (1 credit hr.)
d) Summer #2 MEET Seminar from Winter/Spring continues, esp. via activities with new group coming in;
4) effectively communicate about this program to relevant constituencies, as well as to the general public;
5) upon graduation, be placed in supportive school environments.
II. MMEET Certification Program
The MEET Certification Program is an “add-on” program: candidates must have a valid bachelor’s degree and Missouri teaching certificate before they can be considered for acceptance into this program.
This program consists of one year of course work in Elementary Education and one year of paid internship in a school.
III. MEET Program Support Structures
1) MEET Freshman Interest Group or FIG, consisting of men considering majors in Elementary Education, as well as other men planning on careers in teaching.
2) Recruitment efforts aimed at men in high schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, businesses, etc.
3) MEET communications, including web site, newsletter, and advertising.
4) MEET “renewal meetings” for graduates.
5) Research on the MEET program, participants, and current men teachers, as well as other related populations and issues.
