Mathematics Education Masters Degree
Degree Overview
The Master of Education degree in Mathematics Education is intended for those who wish to improve their mathematics teaching practice and to gain a broader understanding of issues related to teaching and learning mathematics, K-12.
Admission Requirements
Candidates should have a valid teaching certificate or be in the process of seeking certification. To be considered for admission to the program, candidates must submit the following to the MU College of Education Graduate Office (303 Townsend Hall):
- Completed application, with reference letters.
- Official transcript of undergraduate degree program.
- Official test score from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
Accepted applicants are assigned a faculty advisor.
Degree Requirements
The program consists of 32 credit hours of graduate work. No more that 8 credit hours may be transferred into the program from another university. Transfer credits are reviewed and approved by your faculty advisor.
You and your faculty advisor develop the program of study based on the courses and credit hours needed.
- At least 16 credit hours at the 8000 level.
- At least 20 credit hours of mathematics education and/or mathematics.
- One course focused on research and one on learning.
- Masters project (designed by candidate and advisor).
The M-1 form, describing the program of study, should be on file with the Graduate Office at least one semester prior to graduation. The student must be enrolled at MU during the semester they intend to graduate.
