Mathematics Education PhD Degree
Degree Overview
The MU PhD program in Mathematics Education is designed to prepare individuals for careers in higher education and leadership positions in a variety of educational settings. The program aims to enhance student knowledge about the field of mathematics education and develop expertise in conceptualizing, conducting and reporting research studies. Programs of study are individually planned with a faculty committee, and are based upon candidates¿ background, experiences, and professional goals. The majority of our graduates take positions in Colleges of Education or Departments of Mathematics at universities or colleges. However, some graduates move into administrative and supervisory roles at district or state levels.
Admission Requirements
Individuals interested in applying for admission to the MU Mathematics Education PhD program must complete the application process.
Applications require GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, complete undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a personal statement regarding the candidate¿s interest in pursuing a PhD.
Degree Requirements
The program of study is comprised of three major components.
- Coursework
- Internships
- Dissertation
Each program is unique and matched to the student's own intrests and background.
The general program consists of sets of core courses in mathematics education and educational research. Mathematics education core includes courses in:
