Careers

There is an acute shortage of middle and secondary mathematics teachers in the U.S.

There is presently an acute shortage of doctorates in mathematics education. According to recent data, in 2002-2003, nearly 30% of the announced searches for faculty positions in mathematics education went unfilled. The demand for doctorates in mathematics education will continue to increase as 80% of mathematics education faculty will become eligible for retirement in the next ten years (Reys, 2000).  Clearly there are abundant job opportunities for graduates of Ph.D. programs in mathematics education.
