The Art Education program prepares students who will be eligible for certification as K-12 Art Teachers. Our Art Education Teacher Preparation Program is designed to provide students with strong backgrounds in the study of art education and the visual arts. Coursework is structured to develop expertise in studio art, art history, and pedagogy.
Art teacher candidates receive extensive training in the delivery of comprehensive instruction in the production, study, interpretation and evaluation of art and culture. Preservice art education students are provided many authentic opportunities to apply theory to practice and hone their skills through field experiences in varied settings, which include local art classrooms, and art museums. The program culminates in a student teaching internship in which students assume full responsibility as professional art educators.
