Courses

Each course is designed to offer practical applications of psychological concepts and is taught by an expert in the field. You acquire the latest, research-based techniques for dealing with issues that threaten the mental health of children and adolescents, such as:

  • Bullying and violence
  • School dropout
  • Delinquency
  • Substance use and abuse
  • Eating disorders
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Fear and anxiety
  • Physical and sexual abuse.

Courses in the program are designed to provide a solid base to increase your awareness, knowledge and skills. Skills training and assessment take place in school-based or mental health contexts whenever possible, imbedded within the regular course work. Participants will gain skills in:

  • Managing disruptive behaviors
  • Collaborating with families
  • Communicating with angry parents
  • Crisis management.

Courses may require that the student videotape his or her performance in an actual school or mental health setting and submit the resulting footage for evaluation and constructive feedback. At the end of the program, each student will submit a portfolio documenting mastery of program objectives.

Course numbers are subject to change.
