Counseling Psychology History Introduction
The early history of counseling psychology at the University of mIssouri that follows covers the time period between 1891 and 1975. It was written by Dr. Robert Callis who joined the faculty in 1948 and served until his death in 1990. From 1948 to 1953 he was the Associate Director of the Testing & counseling Services (as the Counseling Center was called then). In 1953 he became Director and served in that capacity until 1964. He held the rank of Professor in the College of Education, and, along with several other faculty members was responsible for the Counseling Psychology being accredited by the American Psychology Association in 1953.
