I joined the Mizzou family in 2006, after I received my BEd in Educational Psychology and Counseling at National Taiwan Normal University and MEd in Counselor Education at the University of Texas at Austin. I have received amazing supervision, mentorship and support both from faculty and peer students in the program. Well, believe it or not: we students have great fun here, not always, but quite often! Welcome to join the family!Research and Clinical Interests: My research interest is in cross-cultural competencies. I am currently a team member of Dr. Puncky Heppner's research team, where we talk about cross-cultural coping and culturally sensitive coping ALL THE TIME. I am interested in counseling international students, LGB students, and couples with career, identity, and relationship related issues. Besides counseling training, I also received a lot of diversity and Safe Space training from Multicultural Center and LGBT Resources Center. I previously received my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky. In addition to my assistantships, I co-facilitate a cross-cultural discussion group for MBA students at MU and review manuscripts for the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. I feel very fortunate to be in a department that offers such rich opportunities for students while also providing a caring and supportive environment.Research and Clinical Interests: My areas of interest include a) multicultural issues in educational and career development b) multicultural counseling and organizational competency and c) professional training issues. I am particularly interested in intersections of race, ethnicity, social class, sexual identity, and gender with the aforementioned areas.Assistantships Held: I serve as Assistant Co-Director of the Center for Multicultural Research, Training, and Consultation. I am also a research assistant on a grant investigating how job training for Latina/o food service employees can be made more effective through the implementation of culturally congruent training practices. |

My cultural identity is rooted in Hakka, Cantonese, and Chinese cultures and has been influenced by American culture as well. I have lived in Louisiana, New York, and Delaware before and I love learning languages and cultures. I received my BA in English in 2002 and my M.Ed. in College Counseling in 2005 when I join the doctoral program in counseling psychology at MU.Research and Clinical Interests: My primary research interest is applied problem-solving/coping within cultural context. I am currently working with faculty and students in the program to develop a Chinese coping scale and examining existing coping instruments from a cultural perspective. I am also interested in career development issues of international students and women of color.Assistantships Held: Graduate Assistant at the International Students' Career Services for two years; Program Coordinator Assistant at the Asian Affairs Center for one year; Clinical Graduate Assistant at the Women's Center for one year; Editorial Assistant for the Journal of Career Development since 2007; Assistant Co-Director for the Center of Multicultural Research, Training, and Consultation since 2007. |

I completed my Master’s degree in 1990 and have worked in a variety of settings before returning to school to complete a PhD. The program at MU has exceeded my expectations as faculty and students have both contributed immensely to my growth. The faculty has provided great mentoring and helped me locate opportunities to advance my training and career aspirations. My goal is to seek a tenure-track academic appointment after graduating. I enjoy cooking, photography, and spending time with my family.Research and Clinical Interests: I am interested in the contributions of the multicultural/cross-cultural literature to the treatment and prevention of behavioral health conditions. This focus is broad in that it incorporates culture/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and other diversity variables in exploring factors that impact utilization and outcomes in mental health and substance abuse treatment. While at MU, my principal research line has focused on alcohol interventions with college students. I have also had opportunities to work with faculty and other students on a variety of projects that have included career, developing and teaching courses, and campus climate. Clinically, I have enjoyed providing services at a local clinic and anticipate maintaining a practice throughout my career.Assistantships Held: Graduate assistant at the Center for Multicultural Research, training, and Consultation (08-09); Career Specialist at the International Students’ Career Services/MU Career Center (07-08); BASICS Coordinator at the Wellness Resource Center (06-07). I have been a student at Mizzou since 2003 earning a bachelor's in Psychology and a M.Ed in Elementary School Counseling.Research and Clinical Interests: My primary interests focus on African Americans academic motivation and the many factors that contribute to that such as the media and societal forces, teachers' unconscious biases, and family. I would like to become a Professor focusing on multiculturalism and positive psychology in counseling.Assistantships Held: Currently, I serve as the Associate Director of A Way With Words & Numbers tutoring program. During the master's program, my desire to complete my Ph.D. became solidified. I applied to and was accepted for my doctorate here at MU. I am married and have a son. Research and Clinical Interests: My current interests focus on women's issues including women's career development. I am interested in Positive Psychology and have co-instructed two courses on this topic.
