Principal Certification

Program Overview

Completion of the 33 credit hour master's of education degree with an emphasis in learning and instructing provides graduates the opportunity to apply for the initial Missouri principal's certificate at either the elementary or secondary level.

For a person who holds a Master of Education degree and who would like to pursue principal certification, a review of current graduate course work should be completed by an ELPA advisor. From that review, the student can learn what course work ELPA will or will not recommend as meeting course equivalency requirements for the desired certification. Because new M.Ed or certification requirements place a premium on human learning theory, an area seldom studied in traditional master's programs, many prior graduate level courses do not meet requirements.
